Sharing your location gives strangers, including hackers, the ability to know where you are. Hackers can use information about your location to spear phish you. In other words, they can closely target you with phishing e-mails based around places you’ve been and regularly go. In addition, criminals looking to rob empty houses can also use your location to make robbery attempts at your home when they know you’re away.
In order to protect yourself, do not share your location with the general public. Limit information about your whereabouts to your close friends and family. If you’re on vacation and you want to post about the resort you’re staying at, consider posting about it once you’re back home.
